Rivière-du-Loup, November 8th 2021. The Prelco Group has just obtained an Environmental Product Declaration for its insulating glass units, tempered glass and laminated glass as well as a Health Product Declaration for its insulating glass units.
These two documents facilitate the selection of materials used in the construction of sustainable buildings certified by programs such as LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge or others. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a document that summarizes the life cycle assessment of a product or material. The Health Product Declaration (HPD), on the other hand, transparently indicates the components used to manufacture a product or a material.
According to the Canada Green Building Council, there are more than 5,000 LEED buildings in Canada and their number continues to grow. As the fight against climate change intensifies, the construction of sustainable buildings is becoming crucial not only in North America but around the world.
In 2017, the Prelco Group, with the assistance of Vertima, embarked on a process leading to obtaining these documents. Verified by a third party, Athena Sustainable Materials Institute, and registered with CSA Group, the final documents are now available to architects and managers of sustainable buildings.
Obtaining the DEP and HPD allows The Prelco Group to position itself as a major supplier of glazing for sustainable buildings for the North American commercial, institutional, and multi-residential construction markets. These documents will also enable the Group to measure and improve the environmental impact of its manufacturing processes.
